Imagine a world without any directions or manuals. Your new gaming system came in, but you didn’t know how set everything up. You would be extremely frustrated when not even google could answer you. The only people who would know how it worked would be the creators. This is where Technical writers come in. Their role is to write those manuals, how to’s, and help files. Sounds boring doesn’t it, well not necessarily. They don’t need any prior knowledge of a specific product before taking on a project, so they are constantly learning new things. The average salary for someone with a year or two of experience is $55,069 and the more experience the more the pay. On average a Technical writer with 10 to 20 years of experience makes $80,000 a year. But location also determines pay for example if you're living in New York, New York with 6-7 years of experience would make around $105,000 a year. They do require at least a bachelor degree and most have a degree in writing, journalism, and communication. You probably believe this job is easy “Just write some directions”. Nope, these writers have to gather information from the creators of the product and through interviews, so they need to learn to deal with people. If you want to go into a more specific field of technical you could the technology route and write technical specs or you could go into the medical or business route. This job is an amazing opportunity to meet new people and learn new things and if you love clear concise writing this job is practically made for you.
