Have you ever wanted to make money off of your creativity? I certainly have, and by doing a bit of research, I’ve found the perfect job for you! Graphic Design allows you to illustrate your wildest ideas for someone who will probably pay good money for it. I believe that this is the job that will blow all the others out of the water.
Graphic designers don't need a lot of education. All you need is a bachelor's degree in graphic design, or a related field, and a portfolio of your creations. That’s it! Nice and easy right? You don’t need a bachelor's degree in computer programming or fluid mechanics like you do for engineering. You just need to know how to use reasoning to work with your clients and how to design.
Unlike a lot of jobs, graphic design is all you. Other jobs tell you to sit at a desk type reports all day while graphic design loosens the choke hold and lets you have free reign. YOU choose who your clients are. YOU get to determine what you do that day. YOU get to say what your product is. YOU are your own boss. You get to express your creativity and dreams in any way you wish.
Now, if you’re in it for the money, what I can tell you now is that it’s an ever changing salary. It just depends on who your clients are and how successful your design becomes. And you sometimes don't just get paid in money. For example, Carolyn Davidson designed the Nike “swoosh” logo and was originally paid $35 for her design. After the logo hit it big, they rewarded her with a certificate and a golden ring with her design on it more than a decade later.
As a graphic designer, you may not have a constant salary that you can always depend on, but you don't need a bucket-load of education and YOU are your own boss. Pretty awesome right? For all you out there that want a little more info, it's not that hard to do some research. You may be surprised at what all you can find, and trust me, there’s some pretty great things out there. You can be great too if you just let your imagination run wild and guide you to a successful career of graphic design. Thank you and have a great day.
